Gary opened his first store in 1984. He began his career in jewelry while in the Coast Guard, stationed in St. Petersburg, FL. Upon returning to his base one day, Gary donned a gold necklace he had just purchased on shore. Some of the crew commented on the beauty of his necklace. The men then began to talk about the fact that they liked jewelry, but hated shopping for it. Gary had a different experience. He actually enjoyed shopping for jewelry and finding the best prices. The crew began asking Gary to purchase for them, and that was the birth of his business. With an investment of $4500 from a GI Bill and the hiring of one employee, he opened a small kiosk in the local mall. Cheryl joined the company shortly after it was founded and is responsible for the accounting and bookkeeping for the business. Diamonds Direct has been in the same neighborhood for over 25 years.
Gary and Cheryl were born and raised in Miami and met in kindergarten. Gary enjoys competitive spearfishing and diving. Cheryl is devoted to giving back to the community by donating much of her time to numerous charities and organizations such as PARC and the Junior League. Cheryl, along with Diamonds Direct have been honored and recognized with awards for their charitable contributions and volunteerism in the community.
